My personal music taste, and a catalogue of all music that I may play on stream (such as during breaks).

What I listen to (ListenBrainz)

My music taste varies a lot, though a staple genre is anything falling under rock / metal, including heavy metal et al. There’s also a decent helping of more interesting genres, such as folk, synthesised (ie, Vocaloid / UTAU), and the occasional rap (but that is the genre I tend to be most picky with!). I’m a huge fan of basically all of the Persona music from Persona 3 onwards, and likewise for both the NieR Automata and Replicant soundtracks.

For a flavour of my taste, a sample of artists I tend to like are: Bring Me The Horizon; Miracle of Sound; The Stupendium; Cami-Cat; annapantsu; Rabbit Junk; The Tech Thieves; Poor Man’s Poison; New Medicine; Slipknot; Saltatio Mortis; and I could go on…

Fun fact: I also ocassionally play the keyboard and the guitar (… not at the same time), though admittedly - like many of my hobbies by virtue of having too many - these pursuits have been unfortunately neglected of late. :(

Musicals

I’ve been into some musicals for the past few years:

• Hamilton is a really enjoyable musical with some really catchy songs, though some of the propagandaist presentations in the plot are a little off-putting, personally. In any case, this was an excellent watch and I do wish that other musicals would provide a recorded video format! Not everyone is necessarily able to attend a showing in-person.
• Hadestown is right up my alley, being a musical about not just any Greek myth, but specifically Orpheus and Eurydice - a myth that I particularly enjoy. I typically got by with the Broadway Cast Recording paired with online descriptions of how the stage performance goes, but frankly, that sucks; finally getting to see it in the West End was really fun though! Spectacular.
• EPIC by Jorge Rivera-Herrans is something I’ve been following for a while, being yet another Greek myth-based musical, and I really enjoy this; the storytelling and pacing is, in my personal opinion, really well done, and whilst all of the sagas sound really good, some of the voicework in the Lightning Saga has been incredible. I highly recommend following Jay’s progress on this, if you don’t already!
• Whilst not strictly a traditional musical, Aurelio Voltaire’s The Black Labyrinth musical album is absolutely wonderful, and the scorn expressed in The King of Villains / When I Said I Was Evil at the suggestion the main character was lying? Delicious. An absolute treat to listen to.
