The Outer Worlds
A humourous first-person RPG that's actually tolerable to me, unlike Fallout 4 or 76. I recommend playing it at least once!
The Outer Worlds is, by and large, a traditional first-person shooter RPG, with the gunplay generally feeling a lot like Fallout 4. Where it excels, however, is in the worldbuilding and humour: set in a dystopian capitalist future, the Halcyon Colonies are completely owned by megacorporations, who regard their employees there as their own property (which has some interesting effects with murder - and even suicide - being considered “destruction of company property”, a perversion of justice that even the populace believes in). Despite this desolate setting, however, The Outer Worlds manages to convey it with a humorous overtone: it’s funny in the same way that it’s horrifying, but also funny in delivery, which the game achieves flawlessly.
I wouldn’t advise going into this expecting a completely lighthearted experience allowing you to escape completely from reality, but it’s certainly more lighthearted than not, and it’s a good time all-around.
